Content Policy
1. What you can write in TicTacBrawl
Just one thing: your display name.
There is no chat in TicTacBrawl, no messaging, no custom images or emblems, and no way to upload anything. Your display name is the only piece of the game that you write yourself โ so this policy is short, because it only has one thing to be about.
Your name is public. Your opponent sees it in every match, and it appears on the ranked leaderboard. Please pick something you are happy for strangers to see, and don't use your real name, your school, or anything else you'd rather keep to yourself.
2. What a name must not be
TicTacBrawl is played by people aged 13 and up. Don't choose a name that is:
- offensive, hateful, or an attack on anyone's race, religion, nationality, gender, sexuality or disability;
- sexual, obscene, or otherwise not suitable for a 13-year-old;
- threatening, or aimed at bullying or harassing a particular person;
- pretending to be somebody else โ another player, one of our staff, or a real person or brand;
- advertising, spam, or a web address;
- someone else's personal information.
If you wouldn't say it out loud to a stranger's face, don't make it your name.
3. What happens when you choose a name
When you submit a name, we check it against a blocklist straight away. If it matches, the name is refused on the spot and never saved โ you'll be asked to pick another one.
Two things are worth being straight with you about:
- We don't tell you which word triggered it. That's deliberate โ if we did, the refusal message would become a tool for working out exactly what slips through.
- No human checks your name before you use it. The check is automatic, and an automatic check only catches what is on its list. Something offensive can get past it. That is exactly why the next section exists.
4. Reporting a name
If you see a display name that breaks this policy, you can report it. Tap the โ Report name control โ it sits next to ๐ซ Block on the opponent panel during a match, and on any leaderboard row that isn't your own.
You'll be asked to pick a reason: offensive or hateful, sexual content, impersonation, advertising or spam, or something else. There's no box to type in โ the reason is all we need, and it keeps us from collecting more about you or anyone else than we have to.
What happens next, honestly:
- Your report goes to a person to look at โ we aim to do that within two working days. It does not do anything on its own โ it doesn't hide the name, doesn't rename anyone, doesn't issue a strike, and nothing is triggered by a number of reports piling up. We think it's better to say that than to imply an automatic consequence that doesn't exist.
- We won't tell you the outcome. What happens to another player's account is between us and them.
- You report a name โ not how someone played, not the result of a match. There's nothing else in the game to report, because there's nothing else a player can write.
- Reporting is anonymous to the person you report. They are not told who reported them.
Please don't report names you simply don't like, or use reports to get at someone who beat you. It wastes the time of the person reading them, which makes us slower at the reports that matter.
5. Blocking is a different thing
๐ซ Block and โ Report do different jobs, and it's worth knowing which one you want:
- Block is your own preference. It takes effect immediately and means we try not to pair you with that player again. It doesn't reach us, and it isn't a complaint about anybody.
- Report reaches us, and changes nothing by itself.
You can do both. They don't depend on each other.
6. What we may do about a name
If a name breaks this policy, we may warn you, mute your account, suspend it for a period, or close it permanently โ depending on what the name was and whether it has happened before. A muted account can keep playing but cannot change its display name.
You can still report other players' names while muted. Being muted stops you writing something; it doesn't stop you flagging something.
We keep a record of every action we take, and we can reverse one in full if we got it wrong. If you think we did, write to [email protected] and say so โ there is no formal appeals process, just us reading your message.
7. A note on who you're playing
Some accounts in TicTacBrawl are run by us rather than by another person, so that you can find a match quickly when few players are queuing. They appear on the leaderboard like anyone else, and you can report one of their names just as you would a player's โ you are not expected to be able to tell the difference.
